Association for Chinese Music Research (ACMR) will award two prizes in 2014

The Association for Chinese Music Research (ACMR) will award two prizes in 2014: the Barbara Barnard Smith Student Paper Prize for outstanding student paper in the field of Chinese music (broadly defined) presented at the 2013 SEM meeting, and the Rulan Chao Pian Prize for best article or chapter on Chinese music (broadly defined) published in 2013.

Consideration for either prize requires current ACMR membership; if you are not a current member of ACMR please renew or join when submitting your work.

Please consider submitting your student paper, article or book chapter, and/or nominations for the Pian prize.

ACMR Annual Meeting 2013

The ACMR will hold its 2013 annual meeting in Indianapolis, on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at 8:00-10:00 pm in conjunction with the 58th Annual meeting of the Society for Ethnomusicology.

Note, the SEM meeting will be held at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, hosted by Indiana University Bloomington. Indiana University will present a Pre-Conference Symposium, titled “Music and Global Health: Toward Collaborative Paradigms,” on November 13 in Indianapolis. For information on SEM meeting arrangements and for updates, please visit the SEM website (www.ethnomusicology.org) and select “Conferences.”

2013 ACMR Prize Competition

From 13 to 16 September 2012 The CHIME Foundation (European Foundation for Chinese Music Research) and Leiden University in The Netherlands jointly host a workshop on the topic of Chinese Instruments and Western Museums. Additionally, there are special sessions planned on Chinese and East-Asian instrumental and vocal folk music in honour of Antoinet Schimmelpenninck, co-founder of CHIME, who died on 15 April this year at the age of 49.
